When an article mentions era names, personal names, battles, or the movements of castle lords, it focuses on what can be confirmed and uses wording that makes speculation clear.

Main sources

For the 114 years of Hachigata Castle, the blog refers to documents concerning the Uesugi Kanto Kanrei and the Later Hojo, official records from each period, and recent research papers. For Nagao Kageharu, Uesugi Akisada, Uesugi Akizane, Uesugi Norihiro, and Hojo Ujikuni, it checks dates, periods at Hachigata, battle developments, and letters where possible.

For Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Odawara campaign, the blog refers to letters from Hideyoshi to Chikushi Hiromon and Kato Kiyomasa that show Hojo Ujikuni repeatedly petitioned for lives to be spared. Descriptions of Ujikuni's final years and funeral procession draw on the gravesite and traditions connected to Shoryuji in Yorii.
